Together they had five children, three girls and two boys.

    In 1950, Giulia gave birth to the first son of the family, Achille Maramotti Jr., who later became the CEO of the group. He was followed by his sister Maria, then Piero, Luca and finally Alessandro.

    Achille Maramotti Sr. died in 1991 and he left the company to his sons. In 1995, Alessandro took over the chairmanship of the board of directors and managed to modernize the company. Today, the Max Mara Group employs about 2,500 people worldwide and operates in four main areas: fashion, accessories, leather goods and home furnishings.

    Kappa

    The story of Kappa begins in 1916, when brothers Paul and Emile Billiet opened their first store in Paris, France. They named it Robe de l’Etoile (“robe” meaning “dress”). In 1920, they launched a women’s version called Robe de la Paix (“peace robe”), and the rest is history.

    FILA

    The story of how Italian athletic wear giant FILA became the most iconic sneaker brand in the world is a tale of many twists and turns. In fact, there are several versions of the same story. But the basic outline is always the same: in 1957, Fila founder Aldo Fiaschetti began making mountain climbing gear for his friends and family, and soon expanded his operation to include ski boots, snowboards, and eventually tennis rackets. While he had originally intended to sell his products exclusively within Italy, Fiaschetti realized that the market for sports apparel outside of his home country was growing rapidly, and so he opened up shop in Milan.

    In the 1970s, FILA began expanding beyond just tennis and skiing, venturing into basketball and soccer. By the 1980s, FILA was selling $1 million worth of sneakers per week, and by the mid-’90s, the brand had become the second-largest sporting goods manufacturer in the United States.

    Palm Angels

Palm Angels is an offshoot of the Milanese fashion house Moncler, and it’s already making waves in the industry. The young designer, Francesco Ragazzi, launched the brand in 2017 with a collection inspired by skateboarding culture.     Ragazzi grew up in Italy, where he spent most of his childhood skateboarding around the city. He later moved to New York City and began working at Moncler as an art director. After seeing how much success the brand had achieved with its outerwear, he decided to start his own clothing line.

    Moncler

    The word “moncler,” meaning “from Monestiers de Clermont,” is derived from the local dialect of the region where the luxury clothing manufacturer was founded. In fact, the original version of the brand’s logo had no reference to France or even Italy; it simply read “MONCLER.”

    In 2003, Remo Ruffini purchased the Moncler trademark and began expanding the brand beyond the ski slopes into fashion, music, art, and film. Ruffini’s vision for Moncler was one of elegance and simplicity—a philosophy he carried over to his personal life. He lived modestly and traveled frequently, often wearing a simple black sweater and jeans.

    Ruffini died unexpectedly in 2012, but his legacy lives on in the form of his son, Fabrizio Ruffini, who continues to run the brand today.

    Miu Miu

    Founded by Prada’s own designer Miuccia Prada in 1992, Miu Miu quickly became known for its bold prints and daring shapes. The brand’s signature look is defined by its use of bright colours, contrasting patterns and unexpected materials such as leather and PVC.

    The label has been worn by some of fashion’s biggest names – including Kate Moss, Rihanna and Cara Delevingne – and continues to push boundaries with each collection. Its most recent campaign, shot by photographer Nick Knight, saw models wearing nothing but Miu Miu knitted jumpers.
