17 Popular Energy Drink Brands

    energy drink brands

Energy drinks are beverages containing caffeine and other ingredients designed to increase mental alertness and improve athletic performance. They are often marketed toward young adults who want to stay awake during long study sessions or after working out.

There are hundreds of different types of energy drinks on the market today. Some contain only caffeine, while others also include B vitamins, taurine, guarana, ginseng, etc. The main goal of these drinks is to give consumers an energy boost without causing them to crash later in the day.

    Red Bull

As soon as Red Bull was first introduced in the United States in 1997, its popularity skyrocketed. Red Bull, which first came to life in Thailand, caught America’s attention with clever commercials and gave the public a highly caffeinated alternative to coffee and tea — something that had been lacking in the beverage category.

Now, more than 20 years later, Red Bull is one of the most popular brands of energy drinks in the world. And for many, the classic red color and the iconic slogan “Red Bull gives you wings” are what makes the drink stand out. But now, there are plenty of options for consumers looking for a caffeine fix.

In fact, according to BeverageDaily, there are about 2,500 different flavors of energy drinks available across the globe today. There are even some flavored varieties specifically designed for kids.

But while Red Bull’s lineup of beverages has expanded over the years, the original flavor still rules supreme. In fact, Red Bull has fallen a little behind the times when it comes to flavors. While there are dozens upon dozens of variations of the classic red variety, there are far fewer offerings for consumers seeking out unique tastes.

    Monster Energy

Monster Energy drinks aren’t just another energy drink brand. This brand stands out among competitors because of how much variety it offers. With over 50 different flavors, Monster Energy ensures that no matter what type of person you are, there’s a flavor that will appeal to you. There’s something for everyone here, whether you want a caffeine kick, fruit punch, or maybe some watermelon. Whatever your preference, you can rest easy knowing that Monster Energy has you covered.

    Rockstar Energy

Rockstar Energy drink is one of the most popular energy drink brands in the world. And while you might think it’s just another sugary beverage, there are actually some pretty amazing things about this brand. For starters, it’s the only energy drink on the market that contains no added sugars. Instead, Rockstar uses natural ingredients like guarana, yerba mate extract, ginseng root extract, green tea extract, and caffeine to give consumers what they want.

But Rockstar isn’t resting on its laurels. With zero calories and zero carbs, Rockstar is hoping to make itself the go-to choice for anyone looking to lose weight or cut out unhealthy foods. To do that, Rockstar is partnering with leading nutrition companies like Optimum Nutrition and MusclePharm to help people reach their goals.

    Lucozade

Lucozade is one the most popular drinks in Britain. In fact, according to Euromonitor International, it’s the third best-selling energy drink in the U.K., behind Red Bull and Monster Energy. But while it markets itself as an “energy drink,” the caffeine content per serving actually more closely resembles that of a soft drink like Coca-Cola.

The brand itself is the oldest in the world, though, and if there’s anything we know about British culture, it’s that people love a good old-fashioned cup of tea. And since the original recipe for Lucozade came out of England in 1938, it’s no surprise that it still holds strong today.

    Xyience Energy

Xyience Energy is a relatively new brand in the energy drink industry. They’ve been around since 2004 but didn’t really start gaining traction until 2013.

The brand doesn’t have much recognition yet, so finding it can be tricky. You might think that big national chains like 7-Eleven and Walmart would carry it, but you’d be wrong. Smaller grocery stores usually don’t stock it either.

That said, once you do find some, you’re sure to love how refreshing each flavor tastes. From cran razz to blue Pomegranate, you’re bound to fall head over heels for every single flavor.

    5-Hour Energy

Energy drinks aren’t exactly known for being healthy, but 5-Hour Energy takes a different approach to tackle the problem. Instead of trying to mask the negative side effects of caffeine, 5-Hour Energy focuses on providing a boost of energy without the sugar crash. In fact, each shot contains just 2 grams of carbohydrates, which is half of what most energy drinks contain. And since there isn’t much else in each shot besides caffeine, it’s easy to tell how many calories you’ve consumed.

    Bang Energy

Bang Energy is a beverage company based out of San Diego, California. Founded in 2012, the company sells energy drinks, protein shakes, and sports nutrition products. Its flagship product is called Bang Fuel, a mix of caffeine and creatine powder. In addition to being sold online and in stores across the United States, Bang Energy is distributed in over 50 countries worldwide.

The startup originally launched its energy drink in 2012. Less than a decade later, Bang Energy is one of the most popular energy drink brands in the United States. As of 2018, Bang Energy claims to sell about 2 million cans per month.

    Starbucks Tripleshot

Starbucks has entered the energy drink market in an interesting way that actually seems rather ingenious. In addition to offering its classic brewed coffees, it now offers a beverage called Tripleshots. These are blends of three different types of brewed coffee, including espresso, cappuccino, and latte. Each flavor contains about 30 milligrams of caffeine per serving. But while you can get caffeine from drinking coffee, these beverages also contain the nutrients you expect to see in energy drinks such as vitamins B6 and B12, plus niacin and riboflavin.

The Tripleshots come in four varieties: dark roast, French vanilla bean, caramel, and mocha. They each contain around 45 milligrams of caffeine, along with vitamins B6 and B 12, and niacin and riboflavin. And because they’re blended together, there’s no discernible difference between one flavor and another. But unlike most energy drinks, the Tripleshots aren’t sweetened. They do, however, include sugar, which helps mask some of the bitterness associated with coffee.

    Celsius

Celsius is a refreshing beverage that contains no added sugars, artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors, or preservatives. Its products are certified Kosher and Gluten Free.

The company makes sure that it uses natural ingredients like green tea extract, ginger root powder, and guarana seed extract. They also make sure that there are no artificial colors, flavors, or additives in their beverages.

    NOS

NOS Energy Drink is one of the oldest brands out there, dating back to 2005. They’re still selling today, but they haven’t really caught fire like some of their competitors. Their advertising isn’t great either; they don’t seem to know how to market themselves well.

The product itself doesn’t offer anything special. There are six different flavors, including original, nitro mango, grape turbo, power punch, sonic sour, and turbo. Each flavor is sold in 16-ounce cans.

The drink contains about 300 milligrams of caffeine per can. There are plenty of similar products on the market, but none of them come close to offering the same amount of caffeine. So why does NOS keep sticking around?

    Zevia Energy

Zevia Energy is one of the most popular energy drinks out there. They offer five different flavors: Orange Burst, Grape Blast, Pineapple Punch, Strawberry Lemonade, and Mango Tango. Each flavor has zero calories and no added sugars.

But, just like how Zevia sparkling water tastes too much like soda…their energy drinks also taste too sweet. In fact, it’s almost like drinking a sugary soda.

The difference between Zevia sparkling water and Zevia energy drinks is that the former tastes like carbonated water while the latter tastes like soda. And although Zevia energy drinks are still very good, we’d recommend sticking with the original flavors.

    Full Throttle

Full Throttle Energy Drink is a brand of caffeinated soft drink produced by PepsiCo. They’ve been around since 2004. Their slogan is “Energy You Can Feel.” And while there are many different types of energy drinks, Full Throttle focuses on just two flavors: Original Citric and Blue Agave. Both are carbonated beverages that contain caffeine, taurine, B vitamins, and guarana extract. But unlike most other energy drinks, Full Throttle doesn’t offer any additional ingredients beyond those four main components.

The product itself is pretty straightforward. There are two cans, one for each flavor. Each can contains 20 milligrams of caffeine, 60 mg of taurine, 10 mg of vitamin B6, and 15 mg of guarana extract. This makes for a total of 140 calories per 12-ounce serving. The cans themselves are fairly standard looking. They’re clear plastic with a black label featuring a red logo. The front features the name of the brand, along with the words “energy,” “you can feel,” and “full throttle.” The back lists the four main ingredients, along with the calorie count and recommended servings.

    G Fuel

G Fuel is a brand of sports nutrition drinks that’s marketed to eSports players. Their motto is “Fuel Your Game.” They claim their product is designed to improve your focus and energy levels while playing video games.

All of their products are sugar-free, which they say will prevent you from getting tired during long gaming sessions. Unfortunately, even if all their statements are true, G Fuel simply doesn’t taste good enough to recommend it.

All of their energy drinks have a weird aftertaste that’s similar to cough syrup. If you drank medicine for fun, there’s no reason to voluntarily consume anything containing caffeine and artificial sweeteners. You wouldn’t drink medicine because it tastes bad, so why would you willingly ingest something that tastes like cough syrup?

    Mountain Dew Amp

Mountain Dew Amp is a combination of Mountain Dew and Red Bull. While it does contain some caffeine, it’s nowhere near as potent as energy drinks. In fact, one 12 oz bottle of Mountain Dew Amp contains about 50 mg of caffeine — less than half what you’d find in a single serving of an energy drink.

And while it tastes good, it’s not nearly as sweet as Mountain Dew. So, while Mountain Dew Amp might sound like a great idea, it just isn’t worth the trouble.

    Reign

Reign Energy Drink launched in 2011, and it quickly became popular among athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Their slogan “The Official Sports Drink,” along with the bright colors and fun designs, helped make Reign a household name. In 2017, Reign introduced a new product called “Reign Endurance.” This product contained caffeine, BCAAs, and creatine monohydrate, which is a type of protein found in meat. It sounded like a great idea, but consumers weren’t happy about it. Many felt that the combination of ingredients didn’t work well together, and some even complained about the flavor.

In response to consumer complaints, Reign changed the formula for its endurance products. They removed caffeine and added guarana extract, which is a plant native to South America. Guarana contains caffeine, but it doesn’t cause jitters. And while guarana isn’t known for having a pleasant flavor, many people enjoy drinking it mixed into tea. So now, Reign’s endurance products include guarana extract, BCAAs, creatine, and caffeine.

But what about the rest of Reign’s lineup? Does the company still offer energy drinks containing caffeine and BCAAs? Yes, they do, but they don’t advertise those products very often. Instead, Reign focuses on their endurance products — especially the ones without caffeine and BCAAs.

    V8 Energy

V8 vegetable juice has been making waves in the health food world for decades now. But there’s one problem—the flavor isn’t very exciting. So why did V8 decide to make some energy drinks? They’re just like the juices, except with added caffeine. And while the flavors aren’t exactly mind-blowing, the drinks do come with a couple of benefits.

For starters, you don’t have to worry about adding sugar to your daily intake of veggies. Secondly, the beverages contain fewer calories per serving than most other energy drinks out there. However, the biggest benefit might be the fact that V8 doesn’t taste too much like vegetable juice.

    Eastroc Super Drink

Eastroc Super Drink is a popular energy drink in China. Founded in 1987, it’s one of the biggest companies in the market. In fact, it’s the most famous energy drink in China.

While Eastroc Super Drink is known for being a very strong energy drink, it’s mainly sold in China and neighboring countries like Hong Kong. However, it’s still widely available in many cities across Asia.

The caffeine content is likely a bit lower than other energy drinks, but we can’t verify the caffeine content per 100 ml for this product. Still, it’s a well-established brand, and if you are traveling around China, it might be worth checking out!
