In the late 19th century, Stetson hats were worn by cowboys, miners, lumberjacks, and railroad workers. They came in every color imaginable, including black, brown, blue, green, red, orange, pink, purple, yellow, and white.

    Ebbets Field Flannels

Jeremy Cohen started out making hats in his Brooklyn apartment in 1987. He wanted to make something unique and special — to wear something no one else was wearing. So he did just that.

Cohen, who grew up in New York City, always loved baseball and growing up played ball at the local park. But there wasn’t much to keep track of in terms of authentic memorabilia and gear. “I remember coming home from school and seeing my dad watching baseball games on TV,” he says. “He’d buy me a glove and I’d go outside and play.”

So when he saw a friend wearing a hat with a logo on it, he asked him where he got it. And that led him down a path of discovery. “I went online and found a couple of sites selling old-school caps and jerseys,” he explains. “And then I realized that nobody was really doing anything with those logos anymore.”

Cohen took those ideas and ran with them. His goal was simple: to create a product that combined his love of baseball with the nostalgia of the game itself.

When he launched Ebbets Field Flannel Co., he began sourcing material from manufacturers around the world. Today, the company sources products from Japan, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, and the United States. All are carefully selected based on quality, durability, and authenticity.

    Kangol

The bright white flat cap isn’t just for baseball players anymore. Kangol’s are now ubiquitous among hipsters everywhere — even if you don’t know it.

Admittedly, Kangol’s “Headwear” section on its site is pretty sparse. There are a few styles listed, including a couple of classic models like the Kangol Cap and Kangol Derby Cap, along with some more modern offerings like the Kangol Faux Fur Hat and the Kangol Gingham Checked Cap. But there’s nothing really special about those designs.

In fact, most of the hats sold by Kangol are very similar to each other. They’re mostly plain white, except for a few patterns here and there. And while the Kangol logo is emblazoned across the crown, it doesn’t do much else.

That’s why Kangol’s headwear section is actually fairly comprehensive. In addition to the aforementioned caps, Kangol sells a wide selection of beanies, knit caps, skullcaps, and novelty hats. Most of them are pretty basic, too. You’ll find everything from Kangol Beanie Hats to Kangol Knit Caps to Kangol Skullcaps to Kangol Wig Caps. All of them feature the same basic design.

And while the price tags are certainly reasonable, they’re not exactly cheap. A lot of the beanies go for $30 or less, but the prices for the knitted caps and skullcaps tend to be higher. Some of the novelty hats start at $40, but others cost well over $100. Still, if you want to look cool without breaking the bank, Kangol is probably the best bet out there.

    Brixton

    Brixton

The British fashion industry is often criticized for being overly formal and stuffy, but there are some brands out there bucking the trend. One such example is Brixton, a brand founded by two friends who grew up together in sunny southern California. The duo wanted to make clothes that reflected their passion for music, skateboarding, and surfing. So they did what anyone else might do – they named themselves after a neighborhood in Los Angeles where they could find those things.

But unlike many brands that start off in LA and move to New York City, Brixton stayed put. In fact, it opened its first brick-and-mortar store in 2010, in the heart of downtown L.A.’s Arts District. And since then, the brand has grown into one of the most successful independent labels around. Today, Brixton sells men’s, women’s, and kids’ clothing online and at over 50 stores across the world, including locations in San Francisco, Toronto, Paris, Amsterdam, Tokyo, and Berlin.

    Raffaello Bettini

Raffaello Bettini has been around for 70 years. Founded by Giuseppe Bettini, he began making hats in 1938. His son, Paolo, took over the family business in 1988. Today, Paolo continues his father’s legacy, while adding his own style to the brand. The company makes everything in Italy, including all of the materials used to make the hats.

The company sells hats online and at select retailers across the United States. Their products include woolen hats, knitwear, scarves, gloves, and accessories. All of the hats come with a guarantee.

    Ultrafino

Ultrafino is known for making some of the best straw hats in the world. Their woven straw hats are handmade in Italy and come in many different styles. Some of their most popular models include the Bambina, the Piazza, the Tango, and the Bambini. These hats come in a variety of colors, such as black, brown, green, red, navy blue, orange, purple, yellow, white, gray, pink, and even metallic gold.

Venicia is a wide-brimmed Panama hat that is very popular in Venice. This hat is usually worn by men and women alike. A typical Venician wears it while walking along the Grand Canal, enjoying a gondola ride, or just relaxing on his or her front porch.

    New Era

The New York-based apparel manufacturer has been making hats since 1917, and while there are plenty of brands out there that make baseball caps, none of them pack quite the same punch as the New Era name does. The company has been supplying MLB teams with baseball caps for over 90 years, and recently signed a deal with the league to supply caps for the entire season.

While most companies focus on selling licensed products to consumers, New Era focuses on providing the players themselves with great gear. The company makes caps for all 30 Major League Baseball teams and has even supplied caps for some minor leagues. In fact, the company says that it has sold more than 500,000 of those caps over the course of its history.
